Submersion is episode 18 of season 3 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2006.
An Ancient geothermal drilling platform lies dormant at the bottom of Atlantis's ocean: the expedition goes down there looking for a power source... and wakes something else. A Wraith queen, stranded there since the great war, is hibernating in the depths, and Teyla's mind is the first ground she reconquers. A pressure-cooker chamber piece, literally.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: the geothermal platform joins the city's assets, and Teyla's gift shows its downside once again.
The review
Alien under the sea, Pegasus edition: the flooded platform provides an ideal set of dripping corridors, and the solitary queen, the last survivor of a ten-thousand-year-old shipwreck, has more presence than many entire hives. Teyla's possession follows a well-marked but effective path, and Rachel Luttrell treats herself to a fine split-personality turn. The undersea folklore does the rest. A good atmospheric episode, no revolution but no false notes.
