Irresponsible is episode 13 of season 3 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2006.
Lucius Lavin has recycled his scam: equipped with an Ancient personal shield, he plays the invincible hero in a village that pays him in adoration. The farce turns into drama when a far more serious customer arrives: Kolya, on the run since his failed putsch, who takes the village hostage to lure his real target, Sheppard. The long-awaited duel will take place in the middle of the street.
Why it matters to the mythology
Kolya dies in a duel with Sheppard: the series' most personal vendetta is settled Western-style, gun in hand.
The review
A lopsided episode at first glance, the Lucius comedy grafted onto the conclusion of the Kolya arc, but the final duel makes up for everything: Sheppard and Kolya face to face in the dust, hands near their holsters, and a gunshot that settles three years of hatred. Robert Davi exits through the Western's front door. You'd have liked a farewell less cluttered with gags; the character deserved a darker setting. But the key scene itself is perfect.
