No Man's Land is episode 1 of season 3 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2006.
Two hives are racing toward Earth with the planet's coordinates and Sheppard clinging to the hull in a Dart: the pursuit is organized between Pegasus and the Milky Way, with the Daedalus and the Orion pushed to the limit. Aboard, Michael offers his former tormentors an alliance of convenience, and the retrovirus becomes the weapon of desperation: gassing an entire hive.
Why it matters to the mythology
The direct threat to Earth is stopped in midflight, and an entire hive is turned into a cargo of amnesiac humans: the Michael problem only keeps growing.
The review
A season opener in the form of a space chase, generous with battles and calculated sacrifices; the Orion loses its brand-new hull in it. The real knot is moral: gassing a hive with the retrovirus means winning by doing exactly what created Michael. The series knows it, shows it, and leaves the slate open. Effective, spectacular, and already weighed down by the guilt that will define the season.
