Bruno Dubernat

Some voices you recognize without ever having seen the face behind them, and Bruno Dubernat's is one of them. Born on January 17, 1962, in Alfortville, just outside Paris, he made dubbing his home. An actor and dubbing director, he spent years lending his deep, measured voice to some of the most striking faces in American film and television, until his death on March 30, 2022, in Vitry-sur-Seine, at the age of sixty.

His longest partnership was with Neal McDonough, whom he dubbed regularly starting with Band of Brothers in 2001. But his résumé doesn't stop there, far from it. He was also the recurring French voice of Taye Diggs, Blair Underwood and Temuera Morrison, which naturally led him all the way to the Star Wars galaxy, where he voiced Jango Fett and then Boba Fett. And for thrill seekers, he's also the one who gave his chilling voice to Jigsaw, the infamous killer played by Tobin Bell, throughout the entire Saw franchise. The same actor for the warmth of a hero and the unsettling calm of a killer: that's the full palette of a true dubbing artist.

His playground went well beyond film sets. He was heard a lot in video games, where he played Killer Croc and Ra's al Ghul in the Batman: Arkham series, Brynjolf in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Jango Fett in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. And because he didn't just lend his voice, he also directed others, notably serving as dubbing director on the anime Death Note.

For Stargate fans, Bruno Dubernat is the French voice of Colonel Everett Young, Destiny's tormented commander played by Louis Ferreira, across all forty episodes of Stargate Universe between 2009 and 2011. His grounded, authoritative voice was a perfect fit for a man carrying the whole crew on his shoulders, lost billions of light-years from Earth. A discreet but essential presence, and part of the show's sound memory for everyone who discovered it in French.
