Career
William Coryn came to the profession almost by inheritance. Born on November 18, 1957, in Paris, he is the son of the clown Mimile, whose real name was Émile Coryn. As a child and then a teenager, he acted in many TV serials and series, and became a familiar face on French television before he ever lent his voice to anyone else. That early experience as an actor gives his dubbing work the ease and naturalness he's known for.
Because it was dubbing that turned him into an unmistakable vocal signature. William Coryn is the regular French voice of a whole range of actors, starting with Jackie Chan, whom he has followed film after film, but also Matthew Broderick, James Spader and Dylan Walsh. On the TV side, his voice inhabits some memorable figures: Dr. Greene on ER, Dr. Sean McNamara on Nip/Tuck, not to mention several South Park characters, including Kyle Broflovski and Kenny McCormick. And he isn't only an actor: he also works as a dubbing director and adapter, behind the scenes as much as in front of the mic.
For Stargate fans, William Coryn is of course the voice of Michael Shanks, in other words Dr. Daniel Jackson. He lends his voice to the SGC's idealistic archaeologist and stays with the character throughout the franchise, which makes him an inseparable part of the French version generations of fans have heard. Hearing his voice again means finding Daniel Jackson again, just as French audiences loved him.
