Ariane Deviègue

Ariane Deviègue is one of the most prolific actresses in French dubbing, one of those whose voice you know long before you know their face. The spark apparently came very early, when her mother signed her up for a drama class at around twelve. She turned that passion for acting into a career, and more precisely into the delicate art of lending her voice to others, matching their silences, their anger and their bursts of laughter.

What sets her apart is loyalty. She has become the regular French voice of several actresses who come back season after season. She dubs Sasha Alexander, notably as Caitlin Todd in NCIS and then as medical examiner Maura Isles in Rizzoli & Isles, but also Katee Sackhoff, the unforgettable Starbuck of Battlestar Galactica, and Maggie Siff, seen in Mad Men and Sons of Anarchy. You can also hear her on Jennifer Taylor in Two and a Half Men and The Young and the Restless, proof that she moves just as easily from science fiction to soap opera and comedy.

Her list of credits is huge and covers major series like The Handmaid's Tale and Shameless as well as video games, where she can be heard, for example, in Cyberpunk 2077. A discreet but omnipresent career, the kind that is part of French viewers' everyday lives without them always being able to put a name to it.

For Stargate fans, Ariane Deviègue will remain the French voice of Dr. Elizabeth Weir, the diplomat and leader played by Torri Higginson in Stargate Atlantis. She is the one who gives the woman at the head of the expedition all her quiet authority and humanity in the French version, a role that resonates all the more given how often she voices strong-willed women.
