Alan Armstrong

Senator Alan Armstrong is the politician who oversaw the Icarus program, where Stargate Universe begins. Chloe's father, he finds himself, like the others, thrown aboard Destiny during the attack that opens the series.

Armstrong is one of those powerful men used to making decisions. But on Destiny, wounded and powerless, he faces a situation beyond any politics.

His act marks the start of the series: as the ship threatens to run out of air, he sacrifices himself to save the crew, leaving his daughter Chloe behind. A heartbreaking farewell, right in the first episodes.

Alan Armstrong embodies the founding sacrifice of Stargate Universe, and immediately sets the tone of a darker, more adult series than its predecessors.

Alan Armstrong is played by Christopher McDonald, an American actor with an ultra-familiar face, known for a gallery of memorable roles, including the unforgettable Shooter McGavin in the comedy Happy Gilmore.

His presence gives the senator instant depth, for a character as brief as he is memorable.
