Pain is episode 17 of season 1 of Stargate Universe, first aired in 2009.
Alien ticks that sneaked aboard inject their venom: tailor-made hallucinations for half the crew. Scott sees his revenge, Greer his conspiracies, Chloe her alien intrusion... and each acts on their visions, weapons included. Destiny becomes a floating asylum where the danger is in people's heads, and the bullets are very real.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: chemical paranoia as a stress test for the crew, and a glimpse of everyone's cracks.
The review
The collective-madness routine, a genre requirement, saved by its psychological precision: each hallucination is a diagnosis, Scott's jealousy, Greer's hypervigilance, Chloe's terror of being altered. The series uses its inner monsters rather than an antagonist, true to its approach. A few scenes drag, but Greer as a hallucinating predator in the corridors provides real chills. Decent and revealing.
