Full Alert is episode 14 of season 8 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2004.
Kinsey comes crawling back: the Trust has approached him, and the SGC sends him to Moscow as bait to infiltrate the organization. The operation blows up in midair when the Trust's agents turn out to have become something else: Goa'uld hosts. The network infiltrates the Russian command, pushes the two nuclear powers to the brink of war, and the world comes within a hair of nuclear winter over an orchestrated misunderstanding.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Trust is Goa'uld-infested from within: the corporate enemy and the serpent enemy merge into a single hydra.
The review
An effective Cold War thriller in which the series stacks its paranoias: snakes in Trust suits, Russian missiles on alert, and Kinsey as the fuse everyone dreams of seeing blow. His final disappearance, beamed away by an enemy Asgard beam, is a dodge that leaves the character in eternal limbo, a debatable end to eight seasons of delicious loathing. The nuclear escalation, however, is handled with a real sense of tempo. Solid, tense, a little frustrating at the end.
