Gemini is episode 11 of season 8 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2004.
RepliCarter contacts the SGC: she claims to be fleeing Fifth, asks for asylum and begs her human twin to help her break free. Carter wants to believe her; Teal'c doesn't for a second. At the Alpha Site, the mechanical copy submits to every test, learns everything she's shown... and finally demonstrates what she came for: immunity to the disruptor, offered by Sam's trust.
Why it matters to the mythology
RepliCarter absorbs Fifth and the anti-Replicator weapon in a single move: the creature surpasses her creators, humans included.
The review
The Carter-versus-Carter showdown the series owed us, and it's as venomous as you could wish: Amanda Tapping plays the copy with a micro-shift of coldness that chills, and the manipulation works because it exploits Sam's finest quality, her faith in redemption. Fifth's death, killed by his own creation like a discarded draft, completes the karma of season 6. We end up with the perfect enemy: us, only better. Machiavellian.
