Lifeboat is episode 6 of season 7 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2003.
On a stricken colony ship, hundreds of survivors sleep in stasis... and a power surge hurls their minds into the only available brain: Daniel's. The archaeologist wakes up inhabited by a crowd, the arrogant ruler, the pragmatic engineer, the terrified child, all fighting over his body while Fraiser looks for a way to put everyone back where they belong.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: more an acting tour de force than a mythological milestone, and a fine moral dilemma about digital castaways.
The review
Michael Shanks treats himself to a dizzying one-man show: six distinct characters in one body, each with their own voice, posture and fear, and not a second of hamming. The scene between Fraiser and the little boy sheltering inside Daniel is heartbreakingly gentle. The plot could fit on a postage stamp, but when the acting reaches this level, you sign up with both hands. A stage play hidden inside a science fiction season.
