Revisions is episode 5 of season 7 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2003.
Under a dome, a small community lives in perfect happiness in the middle of a toxic world, connected by a neural link to the central computer. The catch: the dome is shrinking, and to balance resources the system erases residents, houses and memories included. Nobody notices the missing, since nobody ever knew them.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode, but the idea of a collective memory quietly edited remains one of the most chilling in the series.
The review
The concept is pure Philip K. Dick: a utopia that rubs out its citizens along with their memories, and children who ask where daddy went before forgetting the question. The scenes where SG-1 compares its contradictory notes against the edited reality give real chills. The technical resolution is a bit rushed, but the image of the dome shrinking like a conscience lying to itself will stay with you. An excellent, overlooked cerebral episode.
