Forsaken is episode 18 of season 6 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2002.
A crashed ship, a desperate crew claiming to be victims of pirates, and a manhunt in the woods: SG-1 lends a hand to the castaways of the Sebrus against their attackers. But the roles are reversed: the nice castaways are escaped convicts, and their pursuers are prison guards. The team discovers it has been arming the wrong side from the start.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: one more lesson in humility about first impressions on the other side of the gate.
The review
The twist of prisoners disguised as victims is telegraphed for anyone who saw "Prisoners"; the series is practically quoting itself. But the execution is still enjoyable: the escapees' leader is convincing as an affable manipulator, and watching SG-1 get conned is a useful reminder that trust is a luxury. Jonas confirms his instincts, the first to smell a rat. An unpretentious Saturday night episode. You watch it, you forget it.
