Unnatural Selection is episode 12 of season 6 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2002.
Thor calls in the Prometheus for the alliance's riskiest mission: the Asgard have lured every Replicator in the galaxy to a single world, Halla, and frozen time around it. Except the trap has ripened: inside the bubble, the blocks have evolved into human-form Replicators, led by Fifth, the most human of them all. And the team will have to break its word to save two galaxies.
Why it matters to the mythology
The humanoid Replicators are born, and the betrayal of Fifth, left in the trap despite O'Neill's promise, will come back at a very high price.

The review
The episode that turns a mechanical threat into a moral tragedy. The human Replicators, direct heirs to Reese, are no longer insects: they feel, they hope, and Fifth pays for our heroes' realpolitik with his naivety. The final dilemma is one of the most uncomfortable in the series: O'Neill coldly orders the group's innocent to be sacrificed, and the series leaves us to stew in it. Switching it off, you know that debt will come back. Masterful storytelling.
