Double Jeopardy is episode 21 of season 4 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2000.
On Juna, a people SG-1 had freed has fallen back under the Goa'uld yoke... because of SG-1, or rather its robot doubles, who went back out on missions despite their promise to Harlan. Cronus himself has come to punish the world, and the two teams, the real one and the synthetic one, will have to fight side by side. Not all of them will make it back.
Why it matters to the mythology
The doubles bow out as heroes and Cronus dies at the hand of robot Teal'c: Ronac is avenged, and the galaxy loses a System Lord.
The review
The conclusion the "Tin Man" doubles deserved: instead of a comic gimmick, the series turns them into tragic characters who choose to go out as soldiers. Teal'c's double executing Cronus avenges his father by proxy, a heartbreaking subtlety, and the death of the synthetic Carter draws a real tear. The episode settles two mythological debts at once with rare generosity in its action. Very strong.
