2010 is episode 16 of season 4 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2000.
2010: Earth is living through a golden age thanks to the Aschen, allies who defeated the Goa'uld, extended human life and brought their miraculous medicine. All it took was a decade and one detail: no one is being born anymore. Carter, Fraiser and the former members of SG-1 uncover humanity's planned sterilization and have only one way to warn the past: a scribbled note and a gate under crossfire.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Aschen join the bestiary of soft threats, and the bloodstained note that travels through time will find its echo in season 5.

The review
One of the absolute high points of the series. The idyllic future slowly rotting on screen, sterility as a polite genocide, and that final charge toward the gate where each character falls one after another to get a scrap of paper through: it's tragic suspense of total purity. The time loop is smart, the emotion is real, and the paranoia about too-good-to-be-true alliances will stay with you. If I had to show a newcomer a single standalone episode, it would probably be this one.
