Broken Ties is episode 3 of season 5 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2008.
Tyre, Ronon's fallen brother in arms, resurfaces as a wreck: weaned off the Wraith ecstasy and banished by his own, he swears he wants to redeem himself by handing over an enemy lab. The redemption is a trap, Ronon falls into the hands of a zealous worshipper, and the torture begins: addiction to reverse feeding, administered until worship sets in.
Why it matters to the mythology
Ronon goes through Wraith brainwashing and comes back; Tyre pays his debt in fire: the Satedan arc closes in pain.
The review
The dark counterpart to "Sateda": this time the hunt is internal, and seeing Ronon worship his tormentors, even briefly, is an image of rare violence for the character. The series dares to show indoctrination as an addiction, rehab and relapses included. Tyre's final sacrifice, the only dignified way out for a man who betrayed everything, closes the Satedan chapter on a note of clean tragedy. Tough and honest.
