Enemy at the Gate is episode 20 of season 5 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2008.
Todd drops the news that changes everything: a superhive, powered by a ZPM, is racing toward Earth with a hull too dense for any known weapon. The city attempts the impossible in the other direction: star drive restarted, Atlantis crosses the intergalactic void to defend the cradle of humanity. The final battle is fought above our heads, and the city of the Ancients ends up resting on the ocean, facing the Golden Gate.
Why it matters to the mythology
The superhive is destroyed above Earth and Atlantis lands in San Francisco Bay: the series ends with the city back home and the team reunited on the balcony.
The review
A finale that chooses panache: Atlantis as a warship launched across galaxies for its final service, the Antarctic chair as the last line of defense, and that wild image, the cloaked city resting off San Francisco. Not everything holds together perfectly; the pace sprints where it should have breathed, and the series pays for its abrupt cancellation. But the last shot, the full team on the balcony facing an Earth sunset, delivers exactly the emotion required: they've come home, and so have we. Five years of Pegasus closed with dignity.
