Quarantine is episode 13 of season 4 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2007.
A potential contamination locks Atlantis down in automatic quarantine: blast doors, isolated sections, and everyone stuck with whoever chance picked. Sheppard climbs the outside of the tower, McKay panics alongside Katie Brown, whom he was planning to propose to, and Zelenka crawls through the ducts. The computer bug, for its part, doesn't care about feelings.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: an exercise in multiple chamber pieces, and the quiet burial of the McKay-Brown engagement.
The review
The season's unabashed bottle episode: no real threat, just closed doors and mismatched pairs, and that's precisely its charm. McKay's aborted proposal, killed by his own cowardice under stress, has a very true sadness; Katie deserved better and the series says so. Sheppard's climb provides its big gratuitous thrill. Minor, talky, but humanly well observed. An honorable breather.
