Common Ground is episode 7 of season 3 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2006.
Sheppard wakes up in a Genii cell, handed by Kolya to a very particular cellmate: a starving Wraith, ordered to feed on the colonel in installments, session after session filmed to put pressure on Atlantis. Between predator and prey, the unthinkable takes shape: an escape pact, and a debt the Wraith will repay in a way no one thought possible.
Why it matters to the mythology
The birth of the Sheppard-Todd alliance: the Wraith gives back the stolen years, proving that the gift of life exists. Nothing will be black and white again.

The review
The episode that changes the series forever: in a cell-bound chamber piece, Atlantis invents Todd, the franchise's best Wraith character, and shatters its own mythology by revealing that these monsters can give back the life they take. Sheppard aging by stages is superbly cruel, and his final restoration is a biological coup de théâtre that reopens every question. Kolya, for his part, delivers his masterpiece of villainy here. An absolute high point, the turning point of the entire Wraith saga.
