The Ark is episode 16 of season 3 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2006.
A station carved into a moon houses the crazy gamble of a vanished people: thousands of survivors stored in memory in Wraith pattern buffers, waiting for generations to be rematerialized safe from the predator. The visit turns into a race against the orbit: the station breaks loose, the ark goes down, and every decision costs digitized lives.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: storing a population in a pattern buffer, a Wraith idea turned into a Noah's Ark, will come back to haunt the technology inventories.
The review
An engineering tragedy of the kind the franchise loves: the ark is a heartbreaking idea, a people who put themselves on pause to survive, and its orbital wreck forces choices of terrible coldness, who to rematerialize, who to erase. The awakened guardian discovering his species' failure sets the elegiac tone. The physics of the fall is rushed, but the emotion lands exactly where it should. Understated and gripping.
