Duet is episode 4 of season 2 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2005.
A beaming accident in a Wraith Dart merges two passengers: Lieutenant Laura Cadman finds herself stuck inside McKay's head, an invisible copilot of his body and his life. Between internal arguments, takeovers at the worst moments and a date piloted by two, the cohabitation becomes a hilarious ordeal while the technicians look for a way to separate them.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: the franchise's most unabashed possession comedy, and Cadman's entry into the pantheon of supporting characters.
The review
Atlantis's great comedy episode: David Hewlett plays a literally inhabited McKay, and his inner duet with Jaime Ray Newman produces classic scenes, the forced kiss on Beckett chief among them. Beneath the farce lies real tenderness: Cadman forces this misanthropic genius to look his own love life in the face. The technical pretext is absurd and nobody cares. You laugh, a lot, and the series gains a little more soul. A cult favorite.
