Runner is episode 3 of season 2 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2005.
On a forest planet, the team tracks a Wraith signal and stumbles on something else entirely: Ronon Dex, a Runner. The Wraith planted a transmitter in his back and have been hunting him for sport for seven years, from world to world, without a single night's rest. The man is a living weapon, wary and hungry for revenge... and Sheppard immediately sees what the city could make of him.
Why it matters to the mythology
Ronon joins the expedition and learns of Sateda's destruction: the deadliest warrior in Pegasus finds a new pack.
First appearance
The review
Jason Momoa's arrival physically changes the series: Ronon brings an animal presence Pegasus didn't have yet, and his story as human prey, seven years of running without sleep, is concentrated Wraith tragedy. The forest manhunt that structures the episode is taut survival, and the scene where the surgeon removes the transmitter without anesthesia says everything about the character. Ford's replacement, meanwhile, happens with acknowledged pain. Five-star recruitment.
