The Brotherhood is episode 16 of season 1 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2004.
The ZPM trail leads to Dagan, where a vanished brotherhood hid theirs like a holy relic. The treasure hunt, monks' riddles and sacred arithmetic, turns into a race: Kolya and his Genii crash the party, determined to grab the ZPM and settle their score with Sheppard along the way.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Dagan ZPM ends up out of reach: the season's quest for power fails, and Kolya confirms he'll always come back.
The review
Indiana Jones among the monks of Pegasus: the relic hunt owns its codes, crypts, booby-trapped flagstones and a lost brotherhood, with infectious pleasure. Kolya's return electrifies the second half, his grudge against Sheppard ripening into a delightful obsession. The ending is cruel and fair: the treasure exists, but betrayed trust locks it away again, and the city leaves empty-handed. The best tales don't always reward you. Very enjoyable.
