Before sending humans into the unknown, you send a machine. The MALP is a small robot on wheels that goes through the gate first, looks, measures, analyzes, and tells the SGC whether the world on the other side is survivable or deadly.
Overview
Dialing an address means opening a door onto a world you know nothing about. What's the atmosphere like? Is the air breathable? Are there enemies waiting on the other side? Rather than risk a team going in blind, the SGC sends the MALP first. Camera, sensors, air analysis: it reports back everything you need to know before a single human sets foot there.
Its story
There's nothing spectacular about the MALP, and that's exactly what makes it so valuable. This little robot has prevented countless disasters: airless worlds, planets in total chaos, ambushes. It embodies a simple truth of the Stargate program: exploring the unknown takes preparation, and caution is never time wasted.
