Jack O'Neill's wife, separated from him by the grief over their son. Sara is the hero's lost family, played by two actresses, from the film to the series.
Overview
Sara O'Neill is Jack O'Neill's wife. The death of their son Charlie broke their marriage: at the start of the film, she has left a husband who had become unreachable, walled up in his pain.
Her story
Sara embodies everything Jack lost before he ever stepped through the Stargate: a home, a love, a normal life. She is the trace of a man who existed before he became a suicidal soldier.
She reappears in the series when an alien entity takes on Charlie's appearance, briefly bringing her back into Jack's orbit. Sara illustrates the personal price of the hero's calling: to save galaxies, he first had to give up on saving his own marriage.
The actresses
Sara has two faces: in the 1994 film, she's played by Cecil Hoffman; in Stargate SG-1, by Harley Jane Kozak. Two actresses to embody, from the big screen to television, Jack O'Neill's lost family.
