A Denver cop who fell in love with Samantha Carter. Pete Shanahan very nearly married her, before Sam's heart reminded her where it truly leaned.
Overview
Pete Shanahan is a Denver police detective, introduced to Samantha Carter by her brother Mark. Charming and persistent, he quickly falls in love with her and offers her a chance at a normal life, far from the stars and the dangers of the SGC.
His story
Their relationship gets serious enough that Pete asks Sam to marry him. But he stumbles upon the existence of the Stargate program, and above all comes to understand that his fiancée's heart is elsewhere, long since turned toward Jack O'Neill.
With more clear-sightedness than bitterness, Pete eventually steps aside. His time in her life at least forced Sam to face her true feelings. An endearing character, collateral damage of the most restrained love story in the series.
