Visitation is episode 9 of season 2 of Stargate Universe, first aired in 2010.
Impossible, and yet there it is: the shuttle left on the obelisk world comes back and docks with Destiny, carrying the colonists everyone thought had settled in paradise... and no memory of their return. The joy of the reunion quickly crumbles: their memories come back in pieces, and what they tell of paradise is nothing like a postcard.
Why it matters to the mythology
The obelisk builders have returned their guests, the dead included: the strangers' omnipotence is confirmed, their benevolence much less so.
The review
A ghostly episode built like a short story of the fantastic: the gift of the return slowly unfolds into a tale of deadly winter, frozen memory included, and the question of the builders, absent-minded gods or cold judges, stays open as it should. The faith of Dr. Caine, given back and then taken away, lends the whole its spiritual gravity. Minor on the surface, but it haunts you long after the credits. Strange and successful.
