Window of Opportunity is episode 6 of season 4 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2000.
A temporal discharge traps O'Neill and Teal'c in a loop: the same ten-hour day starts over and over, and only they remember. Between attempts to decipher the Ancient inscriptions causing the phenomenon, the two buddies treat themselves to what no one else can afford: entire loops without consequences, from golfing through the Stargate to the series' most iconic kiss.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode, and yet unforgettable: the loop quietly reveals the grief of the old man responsible, and Jack's feelings.
The review
Quite simply the comedy masterpiece of the franchise. The Groundhog Day mechanism is used to perfection, every loop refining the previous gag; intergalactic golf and resigning on a loop just to kiss Carter have entered the TV hall of fame. And then there's the ending, the old man replaying the day to see his dead wife again, and the episode tips into a melancholy that catches everyone off guard. Laughing and crying in 42 minutes: the definition of a great episode.
