Company of Thieves is episode 9 of season 10 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2006.
The Odyssey is captured by the Lucian Alliance, and SG-1 follows the trail into the underworld: betrayals by underlings, crime lords killing each other, and an increasingly challenged Netan at the head of the cartel. Mitchell goes undercover as a hired killer while the situation degenerates into a galactic gang war.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Lucian Alliance cracks from within: after the Ori, the series prepares its post-crusade criminal landscape.
The review
Stargate does its mob episode, and the suit fits: small-time bosses, big betrayals, executions in passing, the whole crime-thriller vocabulary transposed to the kassa smugglers. Mitchell as a borrowed hitman is clearly having fun, and the slow fall of Netan, an overwhelmed boss who senses the wind shifting, is well sketched. Nothing to revolutionize the season, but a solid genre episode that beefs up the criminal backdrop. Effective.
