A Nox, one of that small people who seem fragile but wield unsuspected power. Lya is the quiet wisdom of those who could destroy everything, and choose life instead.
Overview
Lya is a Nox, a member of one of the galaxy's ancient and pacifist peoples. Beneath a gentle, almost fairy-like exterior, the Nox conceal prodigious technological and spiritual mastery. Lya becomes one of SG-1's first contacts with them.
Her story
The Nox baffle SG-1: they seem primitive and defenseless, and yet they can bring the dead back to life, make themselves invisible and levitate entire cities. Their philosophy is radical: never kill, never pass judgment through violence.
Lya embodies this wisdom. Faced with humans still quick to draw their weapons, she responds with disconcerting patience and kindness, while refusing to give in to fear.
She recalls one of the saga's great ideas: true strength isn't always the one that hits hardest. The Nox choose life, against all the logic of war.
The actress
Lya is played by Frida Betrani, a Canadian actress. She gives the Nox her enigmatic gentleness and serenity, wonderfully embodying this people apart, at once fragile and all-powerful.
